Maya MacGuineas from the Committee for a In Responsible Federal Budget joins the Program

Convention of States Action founder, Mark Meckler and Rick Green of Patriot Academy held a town-hall in Sheridan, WY Oct 22. It was the usual polished sales pitch that was short on reasoning and long on “just trust us.” Attendees of the event described it to me as a used car sales pitch and said that they felt a sermon was being preached. Meckler made the ridiculous claim that we really don’t have a problem with politicians; the real problem, he said, is with the Constitution. Fortunately for everyone, I recorded the entire event. It’s a good thing too–lots of stuff he said is just blatantly and provably not true.

The truth is we have a lot of problems in our country but not one of them is the Constitution. In this episode, I play several of the soundbites from the event and explain in detail why an Article V Convention is a profoundly misguided idea.

Also, Maya MacGuineas from the Committee for a In Responsible Federal Budget joins the program to discuss the (kind of) government shutdown. According to her, we are so hopelessly in debt, and the deficit is so out of control, we have no hope in balancing the budget. The reason for this is our elected officials are unwilling and unfortunately incapable of doing what needs to be done.
