Murray Edwards – The Washington Affect

Allen Mendenhall joins me on this episode to discuss his new role at the Heritage Foundation and Trump’s efforts to end the Department of Education.
It won’t be as easy as signing a Executive Order, because it would take Congress to pass legislation to completely eliminate the Department of Education, but he can shift the Departments priorities, redirect and potentially reduce their spending and eliminate unnecessary staff.
His goal, as most sensible people might agree, is to move the responsibility of educating the students back to the states. Let them control the curriculums and how to address the educational issues down to the local level.

Of course, there are the naysayers that believe that only the Federal Government knows what’s best when it comes to educating the students.
The question, are the states prepared to take on the responsibility?
The Department of Education – Educates no one, our country’s once educational prowess no longer exist as the level of American students continues to fall across the globe.
Bringing the educational process back to the states could, in many cases, improve the level of education, but the states will have to be monitored closely, some do a good job, others not so much and the power that local educational systems will have to be held accountable for their actions.
